Generative systems are designed to produce plausible continuations, and a polished answer can include correct facts, uncertain inferences, outdated details, and invented specifics in the same paragraph. Grammar and confidence do not expose those boundaries.
People also use style as a shortcut. Precise dates, citations, technical vocabulary, or a cautious tone can increase perceived authority without increasing evidence. Treat presentation as useful for communication, never as a substitute for checking the claim.
A response is easier to assess when separated into definitions, current facts, numerical claims, causal explanations, recommendations, and forecasts. Each category needs different evidence. A stable definition may need an authoritative reference; a current price needs a live source; a causal claim needs more than correlation.
Some sentences are not externally verifiable facts. A summary may be an interpretation, and advice includes values and tradeoffs. Ask what kind of statement this is, what evidence could support it, and what remains a judgment.
A low-stakes brainstorming idea may need only a quick plausibility check. Medical, legal, financial, safety, employment, or public-reputation claims need qualified sources and often human expertise. Current claims require dates and versions; irreversible action requires stronger assurance before proceeding.
Do not replace blind trust with blind rejection. Generated output can help frame questions, expose alternatives, or summarize supplied material. Use it within a process that preserves sources, uncertainty, and responsibility for the decision.
