An orchestrator can route work, sequence dependencies, share state, enforce policies, manage retries, and combine results. It may be fixed software, an agentic controller, or a hybrid with human decisions.

Example

A research pipeline sends a query to search, assigns documents to extractors, merges evidence, checks citations, and requests editorial approval.

Why it matters
